Walker Ladd is an abstract expressionist painter based in Mobile, Alabama, whose work channels raw emotion through color, gesture, and controlled chaos. During the day, Walker works as an academic and researcher committed to rigorous inquiry, holds a PhD in Psychology, and serves as the Chair of the Department of Research at Saybrook University. At night—and often long before dawn—she turns to the canvas, where intellect and instinct collide. Her body of work challenges assumptions, dismantles narratives, and pushes the limits of traditional form.
Working primarily on large-scale surfaces, Walker approaches painting as a physical, immediate act. Her marks are bold, impulsive, and unfiltered, yet anchored by a deep curiosity about human experience. In each piece, she navigates the fierce tension between analytical thought and intuitive expression, letting intuition ultimately win.
Originally from Los Angeles and now rooted in Mobile, Walker continues to forge a visual language that is both fiercely personal and defiantly free. And she is hysterical.
